The 5th Capitular District is committed to making this website usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification, or other assistive technology. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
What we have done
- A “Skip to content” link and consistent page structure with headings and landmarks.
- Full keyboard navigation with visible focus indicators, including the photo gallery viewer.
- Text alternatives for images, and titles for embedded maps and the calendar.
- Text and background colors chosen for strong contrast, and text that scales when you resize or zoom the page.
- A layout that adapts to phones, tablets, and desktops, and respects the “reduce motion” setting.
- Labeled form fields that support browser autofill.
Known limitations
- Embedded Google Maps and Google Calendar are provided by Google, and we cannot fully control their accessibility.
- Some older event photos have general descriptions rather than detailed ones. We are improving these over time.
- Some documents, such as the inspection schedule, are PDFs designed for printing and may not be fully accessible to screen readers. The same dates and locations are listed in text on the Calendar page.
